REAL Inc is a Not-for-Profit organisation that provides opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities living in the Manningham area, to explore all areas of life experiences. Members are supported to individually access mainstream community activities, volunteer, or develop new skills through employment and targeted courses.
REAL Inc funded, under a Manningham Council Arts Grant, HOPE 21, is in the process of delivering a wonderful, creative project with details outlined below.
The project is designed for each of the participants, working alongside a local potter, to create a clay tile, reflecting on positives in their lives and how this may be represented in their tile. Through this process it is anticipated a spirit of Hope will be engendered.
In mid-September we engaged local potter Jessie Pittard. Jessie is a Melbourne based artist from Eltham specialising in ceramics, printmaking, and illustration. She was extremely keen to join the project developing a theme of togetherness, with all participants working alongside one another, contributing to the overall piece of work.
Jessie’s image is to work with fluid shapes, not necessarily square tiles. This allows for the flow of creativity amongst the participants.
The artwork will be on exhibition at Manningham Uniting Church & Community Centre through the month of February – Monday’s to Friday’s 10am – 4pm or Saturday’s 9am – 2pm.
