Healing Wings

Healing Wings is a work by Wuthathi and Mabuiag Island artist Safina Stewart, inspired by the words of Malachi 4:2:

“But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings.”

The painting features an eagle with its wings expanded, representing Jesus as our Healer and Hope.

The vibrant colours and sparkles of light woven throughout the background speak of the joy, security and life found in being held in the love of God. As Safina describes it, the artwork reflects “The absolute joy and security and life of what it means to be utterly secure in the arms and in the love of our good God.”

A message of healing and hope

Healing Wings reminds us that we do not have to carry the responsibility of bringing healing to the world on our own. Instead, we can trust in the One who brings healing and restoration.

The artwork also offers a message of welcome, connection and belonging.

Safina speaks of the significance of Indigenous art being displayed in churches and community spaces “Seeing our own art and our own language spoken and displayed in your spaces actually lets us know that someone of our Mob has already been here.”

For Safina, the presence of Indigenous art can create a sense of connection and shared understanding, and contribute to the ongoing journey of reconciliation, healing, truth-telling and justice. “So please display our artwork in your spaces and know that it will be a gift to all who come.”

Healing Wings at Manningham Uniting Church & Community Centre

Healing Wings has been gifted to Manningham Uniting Church & Community Centre by Helen Bartlett & Family in memory of Don Bartlett.

We are grateful for the opportunity to display this artwork within our community and to share its message of healing, hope, welcome and connection with all who enter our space.
